Jeremiah 5:3-9

3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth?
aYou have struck them down,
but they felt no anguish;
you have consumed them,
but they refused to take correction.
bThey have made their faces harder than rock;
they have refused to repent.
4 Then I said, “These are only the poor;
they have no sense;
cfor they do not know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.
5I will go to the great
and will speak to them,
for they know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.”
dBut they all alike had broken the yoke;
they had burst the bonds.
6 Therefore ea lion from the forest shall strike them down;
a fwolf from the desert shall devastate them.
gA leopard is watching their cities;
everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces,
because their transgressions are many,
their hapostasies are great.
7 iHow can I pardon you?
Your children have forsaken me
jand have sworn by those who are no gods.
kWhen I fed them to the full,
lthey committed adultery
mand trooped to the houses of whores.
8They were well-fed, lusty stallions,
neach neighing ofor his neighbor’s wife.
9 pShall I not punish them for these things?

declares the Lord;
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?

Jeremiah 5:29

29 qShall I not punish them for these things?

declares the Lord,
and shall I not avenge myself
on a nation such as this?”

Jeremiah 23:14

14But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen a horrible thing:
rthey commit adultery and walk in lies;
sthey strengthen the hands of evildoers,
so that no one turns from his evil;
tall of them have become like Sodom to me,
uand its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”

Jeremiah 30:14-15

14 vAll your lovers have forgotten you;
they care nothing for you;
for I have dealt you the blow of wan enemy,
the punishment xof a merciless foe,
because your guilt is great,
ybecause your sins are flagrant.
15 zWhy do you cry out over your hurt?
aaYour pain is incurable.
Because your guilt is great,
abbecause your sins are flagrant,
I have done these things to you.

Jeremiah 44:21-22

21 ac“As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, addid not the Lord remember them? Did it not come into his mind? 22 aeThe Lord could no longer bear your evil deeds and afthe abominations that you committed. agTherefore your land has become aha desolation and a waste and a curse, aiwithout inhabitant, as it is this day.

Ezekiel 8:17-18

17Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O ajson of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit akthe abominations that they commit here, that althey should fill the land with violence and amprovoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their
Or my
nose.
18Therefore aoI will act in wrath. apMy eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. aqAnd though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

Ezekiel 9:9

9Then he said to me, ar“The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. asThe land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For atthey say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see.’

Ezekiel 22:24-31

24Son of man, say to her, You are a land that is aunot cleansed avor rained upon in the day of indignation. 25 awThe conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is axlike a roaring lion aytearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. 26 azHer priests bahave done violence to my law and bbhave profaned my holy things. bcThey have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and bdthey have disregarded my Sabbaths, beso that I am profaned among them. 27 bfHer princes in her midst are like wolves bgtearing the prey, bhshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. 28And biher prophets have smeared whitewash for them, bjseeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 29The people of the land bkhave practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and blhave extorted from the sojourner without justice. 30 bmAnd I sought for a man among them bnwho should build up the wall boand stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. 31Therefore bpI have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned bqtheir way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”
